Zoram People’s Movement wins first Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram.

The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured its inaugural Rajya Sabha seat from Mizoram on Thursday, as party leader K Laltluangkima won the election for the state’s upper House seat.

Laltluangkima obtained 26 votes, defeating Zothansangi Hmar of the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), who received 10 votes. Three legislators abstained from voting: BJP MLAs K. Beichhua and K Hrahmo, along with the lone Congress legislator C Ngunlianchunga.

“ZPM legislator W Chhuanawma was unable to vote due to health reasons,” said Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer Zothansanga Ralte.

The 40-member Mizoram Assembly comprises 27 ZPM members, 10 MNF members, two BJP members, and one Congress legislator.

This victory represents a significant political milestone for the ZPM.
