New-gen Hilux spotted in New Delhi: What’s changed?

Many major visual and technical changes have been seen in this lifestyle truck seen on the roads of Delhi. The biggest change is in its front look. The company has changed its old traditional bulky look and has now given it a very modern and sleek design. It now features ‘TOYOTA’ written in capital letters on the grille in place of the traditional Toyota logo.

  • Front Design: It has a new honeycomb grille and thin LED headlights with boomerang-shaped DRLs.
  • Side Profile: The vehicle features newly designed alloy wheels and a special recess just behind the rear wheels for easy access to the cargo bed.
  • Rear Look: At the rear, C-shaped LED taillamp graphics and a new muscular bumper make its look attractive.

Glimpse of Land Cruiser in interior and features

Removing the basic and old school dashboard of the current model, the company has given a very modern cabin in the new generation, which is largely inspired by the new Land Cruiser Prado. Now it will get a 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument console. Apart from this, it is expected to get safety features like ventilated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, 360-degree camera and level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to make long-distance traveling comfortable.

Powertrain: Now more powerful and efficient

Talking about mechanical changes, the biggest update is in its steering system. In this pickup truck, instead of heavy hydraulic steering, Electric Power Steering (EPS) has been given, which will make it very easy to turn at low speed. Talking about the engine, it will get the same 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine as the Fortuner, which is now equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This engine generates power of 204 PS and torque of 500 Nm. It will get 4WD (four-wheel drive) system as standard with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Price and its impact on Indian market

According to auto experts, the ex-showroom price of the new generation Toyota Hilux is expected to be between Rs 30 lakh to Rs 38 lakh. In India, its direct competition is with Isuzu V-Cross. The craze for this vehicle is quite old among the adventure and off-roading enthusiasts in Delhi-NCR and surrounding states, hence after this major upgrade, a huge surge in its demand is expected.
