PM Modi launches projects and releases funds for farmers in West Bengal

Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 23rd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme to eligible beneficiaries in Hooghly district, West Bengal, on June 18. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, with support from the Government of West Bengal.

In the 23rd instalment, over Rs 907.21 crore was transferred to more than 45.35 lakh beneficiaries in West Bengal, raising the total disbursement under the scheme in the state to over Rs 15,055 crore since its launch in 2019. Across India, over Rs 18,880 crore was credited directly to the bank accounts of more than 9.44 crore farmers.

PM Modi also launched the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) / Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS) in West Bengal, making the benefits of the world’s largest crop insurance program available to the state’s farmers. For 2026-27, the scheme aims to cover nearly 1.10 crore farmers across approximately 30 lakh hectares of agricultural land, insuring crops with an estimated value of Rs 28,140 crore. The central and state governments will provide premium subsidies of around Rs 777 crore to keep costs low for farmers.

The Prime Minister stated, “There is now a new freshness in the air of West Bengal. A new fragrance is wafting from every particle here; it feels as if Bengal has now broken free from its shackles. As if the restoration of Bengal’s pride has begun. Today’s event is a witness, the launch of these projects is a testament that our Bengal has set to work building its new future.” He added, “It is clearly visible in Bengal how much change a ‘single vote can bring’.”

On the occasion, he extended his congratulations to the people of Bengal and fellow countrymen on West Bengal Day, noting the significance of the day in realizing the dreams envisioned for Bengal’s future since independence. He said, “May this historic occasion inspire West Bengal’s development and help us script a new and glorious history.”

PM Modi also dedicated the Sankrail-Santragachi Link Line Project in Howrah district to the nation and laid the foundation stone for a 300-bed New Divisional Railway Hospital at Howrah. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone for a Road Over Bridge between Haur and Radhamohanpur in Purba Medinipur district.
