Qatar Ras Laffan Gas Plant: Qatar’s main natural gas export infrastructure suffers a major explosion. According to reports, a major accident occurred in Ras Laffan Industrial City near Doha when suddenly there was an explosion and fire in the Barzan Gas Supply Facility on Sunday night.

At least 54 people were injured in this incident and 18 people are reported missing. The incident occurred when workers were trying to resume operations at Qatar’s important Natural Gas Export Terminal.

The world’s largest Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) hub is present in this area.

Videos circulating on social media show a large ball of fire and thick smoke rising from the scene, although these videos could not be independently verified.

The explosion was so big that the flames lit up the night sky and billowing smoke was seen rising from the industrial area.

The production capacity of our plant is approximately 1.4 billion standard cubic feet of sales gas per day. Its production is mainly for domestic power generation and running desalination plants. This supplies water to the dry Gulf country.

Ras Laffan has long been considered a strategic backbone of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply. Any prolonged disruption in this could have an impact on the international energy market, especially in Asia and Europe, which are heavily dependent on exports from Qatar.
