Iran’s intelligence agency has arrested 17 people in a major action in Ilam province. According to Iran’s government claims, these people were mercenaries working for America and Israel. These people are accused of spreading instability in the country and spying for foreign powers.

Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence said that those captured included three main field leaders, while the remaining 14 were their associates or operatives. Officials have described this entire group as a network of American and Israeli enemies, whose purpose was to create ruckus and sabotage on the streets. A case of treason has been registered against all of them.
Investigation has revealed that some members of this group were also involved in the protests that took place during the winter last year (2025-2026). At the time of their arrest, Iranian police recovered a large quantity of weapons and explosives, including:
- 3 TNT Explosive Device
- a kalashnikov rifle
- a hand grenade
- Machete and other edged weapons
This arrest has taken place at a juncture when efforts for talks are going on to reduce tension between Iran and America. A new agreement has been reached between the two countries to reduce nuclear programs and sanctions.
