IND vs AFG: Gurnoor Brar created history, did such a feat in the first 2 ODIs that only one Indian could do till now

This 26-year-old fast bowler from Punjab gave a big blow to Afghanistan in the beginning of their innings. He dismissed dangerous batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the third ball of the eighth over. After this, captain Hashmatullah Shahidi was bowled and then completed his third victim by taking the wicket of Mohammad Salim Safi on the last ball of the 40th over.

Gurnur made a special record in his name
Gurnoor made his ODI cricket debut on 13 June 2026 against Afghanistan in Dharamshala. In his first match, he took 3 wickets for just 27 runs in 4.5 overs. Now in the second match also, he made a special record in his name by taking 3 wickets.

Equaled Piyush Chawla’s record
Earlier, only Piyush Chawla had achieved this feat for India. Chawla took 3 wickets in his debut ODI against Bangladesh in 2007 and then took three wickets in the next ODI against Ireland. Gurnoor equaled this record after almost 19 years.

Till now Gurnoor Brar has taken 6 wickets in his ODI career. These include batsmen like Ibrahim Zadran, Rashid Khan, Zia ur Rehman Sharifi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Mohammad Salim Safi.

However, the record of best bowling from India on ODI debut is in the name of Prasidh Krishna. He took 4 wickets in his first ODI in 2021 against England in Pune. But in the next match, he was able to take only two wickets, whereas Gurnoor was successful in taking three wickets each in both the consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, India gave a debut opportunity to another young player Prince Yadav in the second ODI. This fast bowler of Lucknow Super Giants took 2 wickets for 56 runs in 7.3 overs.

Gurnoor Brar’s consistently impressive bowling has given Team India a new fast bowler for the future. If he maintains this rhythm, he can become a strong contender for the Indian team in the upcoming big tournaments.
