‘My fees should be more than Akshay Kumar’s!’ Sanjeev Kapoor kicked MasterChef India for insisting on fees! self told story

Famous celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who is known in every household for ‘Khana Khazana’, has recently made an interesting revelation. He told that in the initial days he had refused to be a part of ‘MasterChef India’ only because the makers were not ready to accept one of his conditions. He talked about his journey and a condition behind joining the show, with which he clearly refused to compromise.

Left the show after not getting more fees from Akshay Kumar

While talking to ‘Culinary Culture’, Sanjeev Kapoor told that when he was approached for the first time for this cooking reality show, he had put a condition before the makers. The condition was that he should be paid more than Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, who was hosting the initial season of the show, even if it was only one rupee more.

Recalling those days of conversation, Sanjeev Kapoor said, ‘When he came to me for the first time, he did not accept my conditions. My condition was simple – I should get even one rupee from Akshay Kumar, but more fees. That was the first season of the show and at that time there was no one else except me who could do it. This was a very clear thing.

The chef further said that when the producers rejected his demand, he thought it better to leave the show rather than compromise his self-respect. He said, ‘I told him that I have a condition. They did not agree and I did not want to compromise. I was very happy with my decision.

Even after rejecting the offer, the makers kept in touch with Sanjeev Kapoor and kept requesting him to be a part of the show. But Sanjeev remained adamant on his point. He recalled, ‘I kept getting messages from him continuously. He used to say, ‘Sir, please come for at least one episode.’ But my answer was always ‘no’.

According to Sanjeev Kapoor, by the third season of the show, the tables had completely turned. The producers themselves admitted that the current format of the show was not performing as well as they had expected. After this he approached Sanjeev Kapoor to prepare the show afresh.

Sanjeev told, ‘By the third season he came to me and said, ‘Sir, this format is not working. we need you. You tell me what should we do now? I said, ‘I don’t think I can…’ but he interrupted and said, ‘No sir, we will do exactly what you say.’

When he was asked whether the makers had finally accepted his condition of ‘one rupee more’? So Sanjeev Kapoor said smilingly, “Yes, I absolutely agreed! That was my condition on which there could be no compromise. If I am not able to express even this much of my rights in the show of my field, then what is the point?”

The famous chef made it clear that his demand did not come out of any pride, but out of his confidence in his work and his position in the cooking industry. He believed that ‘MasterChef India’ was a show completely based on food and it was his right to see himself as a leader in this field.
