Former Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia Collapses During Public Function; Hospitalized
Jalandhar, June 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Senior BJP leader and former Punjab Cabinet Minister Manoranjan Kalia was admitted to a hospital in Jalandhar on Wednesday after he reportedly lost consciousness while attending a public function in the city.
The incident took place during an event organized in connection with the inauguration of a Railway Over Bridge (ROB), where Union Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Industries Ravneet Singh Bittu was scheduled to participate.
Eyewitnesses said Kalia suddenly felt unwell and collapsed at the venue, prompting an immediate response from security personnel, party workers and fellow BJP leaders. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Sources indicated that Kalia had been running a fever since Tuesday but chose to attend the program owing to the Union Minister’s visit. While waiting for the arrival of the dignitary, he reportedly began experiencing discomfort before losing consciousness.
Preliminary medical assessments suggest that a possible drop in sodium levels may have led to a fall in blood pressure, resulting in the health episode. Doctors admitted him to the emergency ward and carried out necessary examinations.
Hospital sources later confirmed that Kalia’s condition was stable and that he remained under medical observation as a precautionary measure.
A veteran BJP leader and former minister, Manoranjan Kalia has been one of the party’s most prominent faces in Punjab politics, particularly in Jalandhar, where he has remained an influential political figure for decades.
Party leaders and supporters expressed concern over the incident and wished him a speedy recovery.
