Kolkata: Roof of warehouse under construction collapsed, 3 workers died, 21 people were rescued, many others trapped in the debris.
Kolkata, June 24. The roof of an under-construction warehouse collapsed in Taratala area of West Kolkata on Wednesday afternoon. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in this accident. According to the information received, 21 laborers trapped in the debris were rescued while 18 laborers are trapped under the debris. Rescue operation is going on at the spot. The injured workers have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari visited the spot. After inspecting the situation, he said that three have died in the accident. 21 people have been rescued and 18 people are still trapped under the debris. Efforts to save them are ongoing.

Control room numbers of Disaster Management Group opened in the Secretariat
As soon as the news of the accident was received, action was immediately started in Nabanna. The situation was so serious that Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari hastily canceled an important press conference. He himself monitored the entire rescue operation and the situation from higher levels of administration. According to police, the injured were taken to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata. Apart from several ambulances of Kolkata Police and Administration, Army ambulances were used to take the injured to the hospital. As soon as the news of the accident spread, local residents and relatives of the injured gathered at the spot. Additional police force was deployed to maintain order and keep the situation under control.
Immediately after the accident, a police officer said, ‘The roof of the warehouse built on Transport Depot Road near Brace Bridge in Taratala area collapsed in the afternoon. Our officers have reached the spot. Some people were working at the site at the time of the incident. We fear that many people may be trapped under the debris.
Army officers were also seen helping in the rescue operation.
It was told that the iron beams and large pieces of concrete used for construction broke and fell on the workers working there. Kolkata Police, disaster management team, civil defence, and fire and emergency services personnel are carrying out rescue operations at the spot. Gas cutters are being used to cut iron and concrete. Rescue workers are trying to reach the trapped people through vertical drilling.
