Big honor to Sarpanches of Punjab, government will give them monthly honorarium

The Punjab Government has made an important announcement to strengthen rural administration and give respect to the role of Sarpanches. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced to give honorarium to the sarpanches of the state every month. This announcement made during the ‘Sarpanch Milni’ program organized in Bathinda is being considered as a big decision to strengthen rural development and local self-governance.

The Chief Minister said that the role of Sarpanches is very important in the development of villages and taking democracy to the grassroots level. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure their respect and economic security.

Sarpanch is the first link of democracy

Addressing the program, Bhagwant Singh Mann said that the real beginning of democracy starts from the villages and Sarpanch is its first link. He said that the foundation of the democratic system was laid with the independence of the country, but with time, the Sarpanches had to face the maximum criticism and pressure.

The Chief Minister said that despite being representatives of villages, many Sarpanches work with limited resources. In such a situation, it is necessary to support them financially so that they can discharge their duties without any pressure.

Monthly honorarium will be available from 15th August

According to the announcement of the government, from August 15, the honorarium amount will be sent directly to the accounts of all the sarpanches of the state every month. The Chief Minister said that whether this assistance amount is called honorarium, salary or honorarium, its objective is to provide financial strength to the Sarpanches.

He said that this step will boost the confidence of Panchayat representatives and help them focus more on development work.

Thousands of villages will get benefits

There are more than 13 thousand villages in Punjab. In such a situation, the benefits of this scheme will reach a large number of Panchayat representatives. The Chief Minister said that the government will have to spend crores of rupees every month on this scheme, but this expenditure is completely justified for rural development and strengthening the Panchayat system.

He said that many Panchayats have adequate sources of their income, but there are many villages where the Panchayats do not have any special resources. Sarpanches of such areas have to face financial difficulties.

Rural development will get new momentum

Experts believe that this decision can increase transparency and accountability in administrative work at the Panchayat level. Besides, better implementation of development schemes in rural areas will also gain momentum.

This financial support given to the Sarpanches is not only a financial aid but is also being considered as a symbol of respect for their role in local democracy. This step of Punjab government can become an example for other states also in the coming times.
