Big relief to the oil market! Trump said- Iran will not impose any toll on ships passing through Hormuz
New Delhi: Relief news has emerged for the global oil market. US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran has assured America that no additional duty will be imposed on ships passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. This includes tolls, insurance charges or other finance charges. This statement is being considered a positive sign for global energy supply and maritime trade.
What did Trump say?
Trump said on his social media platform that the Iranian side has informed the US that the movement of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz will continue as before and no additional economic burden will be imposed on them. He says that this assurance has been given with the aim of keeping international maritime traffic safe and uninterrupted.
This development has come at a time when diplomatic efforts have intensified to restore stability in the region after recent tensions in the Middle East. Talks are going on between America and Iran on many important issues in Switzerland. Topics like Iran’s nuclear program, regional security system and security of sea routes are mainly included in these talks.
The US administration has also clarified that no direct cash assistance or liquid financial resources have been provided to Iran. According to Trump, a special mechanism is being prepared for the use of Iranian assets under American control. The funds withheld under this arrangement can be used primarily to purchase American agricultural products such as corn, wheat and soybeans, which will help meet Iran’s food needs.
Iran’s different stance
However, on the other hand, Iran’s stance appears somewhat different. Tehran has previously indicated several times that it is considering plans to levy some fees on ships passing through Hormuz. Iranian officials say this will not be a traditional toll, but an administrative fee for services such as navigation assistance, security management and maintenance.
Recently, Iran and Oman issued a joint statement asking for further study on this topic. Both countries believe that a fee system can be considered for some administrative services related to waterways. Meanwhile, America is opposing any such proposal, because it believes that it could affect global trade and energy supply. At present, everyone’s eyes are fixed on the ongoing negotiations and possible upcoming agreements.
