‘Bharat Taxi’ launched in Gujarat, Amit Shah said – Now there will be no 7 lakh drivers, partners will be the owners of the platform

Tezzbuzz Desk – Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a taxi service based on cooperative model in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. ‘Bharat Taxi’ Started. The objective of this initiative is to economically empower taxi drivers, give them ownership rights and provide transparent and reliable transportation services to passengers.

Addressing the launch event, Amit Shah said that the aim of ‘Bharat Taxi’ is to ensure that neither drivers are exploited nor passengers face any kind of trouble. He said that unlike the existing private app-based taxi services, this model is based on a cooperative arrangement, in which the drivers will not be just service providers, but will also be owners and partners of the platform.

Amit Shah said that only about seven lakh drivers associated with this initiative are its shareholders and owners. According to him, this system will not only provide a source of income to the drivers, but will also provide respect, security and economic participation. He said that this model prepared on the principle of cooperation can prove to be a new beginning for the transport sector in the country.

He said that ‘Bharat Taxi’ has been successfully tested at many places and now it has been formally launched from Gujarat. This service has been started in major cities of the state, in which facilities like two-wheeler taxi, auto-rickshaw and four-wheeler cab will be available.

Amit Shah also raised questions on the functioning of private app-based taxi companies. He alleged that many companies charge high commission from drivers, delay payments and close their accounts without giving adequate reasons. He said that ‘Bharat Taxi’ will emerge as an alternative to these problems.

During the program, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed with Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Gujarat State Cooperative Bank, State Traffic Police and several airport and railway related institutions, so that the scope of this service can be expanded rapidly.

The government believes that this initiative will play an important role in increasing the income of drivers, providing them social security and providing better and transparent transport services to passengers. Based on a cooperative model, ‘Bharat Taxi’ is being seen as an alternative to private aggregator companies, where the drivers themselves will be the partners and owners of the system.
