6.2 magnitude earthquake in Afghanistan, tremors felt in many countries including India, no major damage

Gurugram. On Saturday evening, strong earthquake tremors in Afghanistan and surrounding areas left people in panic. According to the information received, an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude was recorded at around 7:05 pm, about 81 kilometers away from Kalaphagan, Afghanistan. The epicenter of the earthquake was reported near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border, while its depth was about 192 kilometers. Due to its great depth, its tremors were felt far and wide.

The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Afghanistan only, but its impact was seen in many neighboring countries including India. In India, people felt strong tremors in the earth in Jammu-Kashmir, Punjab, Delhi-NCR and many parts of North India. People came out of their homes and offices after mild to moderate tremors in areas like Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara and Jammu of Jammu and Kashmir.

Earthquake tremors were also felt for a few seconds in Delhi-NCR and Gurugram, due to which panic spread among the people and at many places people came out into open spaces. However, no information about any loss of life or property has been received so far.

The National Center for Seismology confirmed the earthquake and said that it was a moderate intensity earthquake, due to its deep depth, its impact was felt in a wide area. The administration is monitoring the situation in all the affected areas and at present the situation is said to be normal. According to officials, no major damage has been reported from any country or region so far, but precautionary monitoring is going on.
