America’s airstrike after Hormuz drone attack, Iran’s sharp counterattack; Tension increased during conversation

Tehran: The situation has once again become extremely tense in the Middle East. Following a drone attack on a merchant ship in the Strait of Hormuz, the US retaliated against several military bases in Iran. Immediately after this military action, a strong reaction came from Iran. Iranian MP Ibrahim Azizi targeted America and said that by attacking during talks, Washington has proved that it is neither concerned about talks nor a ceasefire.

‘America is not serious about talks and ceasefire’

Iranian MP Ebrahim Azizi criticized the US action on social media, saying Iran was attacked despite talks continuing. He alleged that the US President has once again made it clear that his government is not committed to the principles of dialogue and ceasefire. Azizi said that this violation of the ceasefire will ultimately prove to be harmful for America and the politics of blame will no longer work.

Why did America take military action?

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), on June 25, the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely*, transiting the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, was attacked by a unilateral attack drone. CENTCOM says that in response to this incident, on June 26, the US Army carried out air strikes targeting several Iranian military bases.

Missiles, drones and radar sites became targets

According to the US military, during the retaliation, airstrikes were conducted on Iran’s missile and drone storage centers as well as coastal radar sites. CENTCOM claimed that the attack on the commercial ship was completely unjustified and a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement.

America’s emphasis on the safety of commercial ships

CENTCOM said the United States continues to coordinate with its allies to ensure the safe passage of all commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The US military also said that its troops are on full alert and deployed throughout the region to ensure compliance with the agreements reached with Iran.

Britain also confirmed the incident

Britain’s military has also confirmed that a container ship was hit by a projectile off the coast of Oman. According to the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), no injuries were reported in the incident.

IMO bans evacuation of ships

In view of the increasing tension in the region, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has currently stopped the evacuation of ships stranded in the Persian Gulf. The organization says the evacuation will not be resumed until the safety of other ships in the area is ensured.

According to IMO Secretary General Arsenio Dominguez, about 115 ships have passed through the strait in recent days, while about 500 ships are still in the area.
