Manipur is still burning in the struggle of Nagas; 48 kidnapped, 20 killed in 4 months
Imphal : ManipurA mob torched more than 20 houses in Litan Saraikhong Naga village of Ukhrul district on the night of February 8 and 9. Seeing the deteriorating situation, the government on February 10 suspended internet services in Ukhrul and Kangpokpi districts. Army is guarding the border of both the districts. Meanwhile, shocking information has come out that 48 people have been kidnapped in these four months.
While ethnic violence between the Maitei and Kuki communities, which has been ongoing since 2023, has barely abated, the Naga-Kuki conflict that has been raging for the past four months has now opened a third front of violence. It started with a minor dispute on February 7, when a Naga teacher returning home from school in Saraikhong village saw some children sitting on the street drinking alcohol. The teacher forbade them to drink alcohol near the school. It is alleged that these sons belonged to the Kuki community. He beat up the teacher himself and threatened to leave Ukhrul if he wanted to live. Since then, Manipur has been on fire again for the past four months.

On June 10, the dismembered bodies of six Naga men were found near Kharam Vaifei village, raising tensions between the Kuki Naga communities. The men, along with Dilip Thiumai, were abducted from Kangpokpi on May 13. Dilip and his wife had gone to Kangpokpi market to get medicine for their son. While returning, a group of cookies stopped the car. They dragged everyone out, blindfolded them and took them to different cars. The next day, they released all the women, but not the men.
