Preparation to hit the road straight from EICMA Concept
Hero MotoCorp first showcased its two brand new scooters, the Xoom 125 and the Xoom 160, to the world at the prestigious EICMA 2023 auto show held in Milan city of Italy. Exactly one year later, i.e. in EICMA 2024, the company unveiled its adventure concept models. Now the patent pictures that have surfaced exactly match the same adventure concept. It is believed that the company can launch it on the roads of India by the upcoming festive season or the beginning of the next financial year. According to market experts, this scooter will be sold through Hero’s select and premium ‘Premia’ showrooms.
Dakar Rally inspired design and impressive off-road features
Leaked patent documents clearly show that this new variant of the Xoom 125 is completely inspired by the dangerous racing bikes of the Dakar Rally. There are several major cosmetic and functional changes compared to the standard model that make it a proper adventure scooter:
- Front Beak (Beak-Style Mudguard): Instead of a traditional mudguard, it has a raised beak like beak at the front, which gives it an aggressive look.
- Tall Windscreen: A tall transparent visor has been installed above the handle bar to protect from gusts of wind at high speed.
- Crash Guard Protection: Strong crash guard is provided to protect the apron area and side body, which will protect the body panels in case of a fall.
- Knuckle Guards: To protect the rider’s hands, strong knuckle guards are provided on the handle which is not found in standard scooters.
- Tires and Wheels: For bad roads and off-roading, it uses 14-inch alloy wheels with block-pattern knobby tyres.
No compromise between power and engine
Even though the external look of this scooter has been completely changed, its mechanicals and engine will be kept the same as the standard model. It will have a reliable 124.6cc single-cylinder, air-cooled petrol engine. This engine is capable of generating maximum power of approximately 9.8 bhp and peak torque of 10.4 Nm, which is mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Apart from this, it will also be provided with modern features like Bluetooth connectivity, fully digital instrument console with turn-by-turn navigation and cornering fog lamps.
Official statement and market impact
“We are rapidly expanding our premium portfolio in India. Through the ‘Premia’ network, we are committed to providing world-class products to our customers. The Xoom series is an important part of our vision.”
— CEO, Hero MotoCorp (during the official strategy announcement)
The 125cc segment of the Indian automobile market is currently dominated by scooters like TVS NTorq 125, Suzuki Burgman Street and Honda Dio 125. However, none of these brands currently offer a factory-fitted ‘adventure’ or ‘rough-and-tough’ themed scooter. In such a situation, this new bet of Hero can attract a lot of youth and those people who are looking for some different and stronger option apart from a routine commuter scooter.
