NEET paper leak: Sonam Wangchuk starts hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, demands resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at Jantar Mantar in protest against the NEET paper leak and alleged controversies related to CBSE continued for the ninth day on Sunday. The party has been protesting since June 20 demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Meanwhile, Ladakh social activist Sonam Wangchuk started an indefinite hunger strike at the protest site, after which a large number of students, youth and protesters started gathering there. Representatives of many farmer organizations also supported the movement.

Fast started from Rajghat

Before starting the hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk and CJP founder Abhijit Deepke went to Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Deepke said that the agitation will continue until the Education Minister resigns.

The issue of Wangchuk’s arrest is again in discussion

Wangchuk was arrested last year during the agitation demanding full statehood for Ladakh. He stayed in Jodhpur jail for about 170 days. After the violence in Leh in September 2025, the government detained him under the National Security Act (NSA), accusing him of inciting violence.

CJP’s counterattack on Pradhan’s statement

In an interview given on June 23, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had alleged that some people were trying to destabilize the education system and were raising slogans in support of the forces trying to divide the country. In response, Abhijeet Deepke said that the agitators are taxpayers and calling them terrorists is an insult to democratic opposition. He also raised the issue of NEET paper leak and demanded accountability from the government.

How Cockroach Janata Party came into existence

CJP was launched in May 2025. The party was formed following comments that claimed unemployed youth were compared to “cockroaches”. After this, Abhijeet Deepke founded the organization and started an online campaign demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. The party claims that its petition got the support of lakhs of people, while CJP also registered a huge presence on social media in a short time.
