Vung Tau has long been a popular destination for runners in southern Vietnam, thanks to its 42-kilometer coastline and wide seaside roads that provide favorable conditions for road races.
The VM course is expected to pass several of the city’s best-known landmarks, including Back Beach (Bai Sau), Front Beach (Bai Truoc), Nghinh Phong Cape, the Vung Tau Lighthouse and the Christ statue.
The city is home to an active running community. Local clubs include Vung Tau Beach Running Club (VBRC), which has more than 11,000 Facebook members, VungTau Trail Runners with over 5,000 members, and Ba Ria Running Club (BRRC), which has nearly 1,000 members.
Late August temperatures in Vung Tau typically range between 26 and 30 degrees Celsius. While rain is common in the late afternoon and evening, mornings are generally cooler, providing favorable conditions for racing.
Beyond the event, runners and their families can visit nearby destinations such as Long Hai, Ho Tram and the Vung Tau Lighthouse, while sampling local specialties including banh khot (mini savory pancakes), stingray hotpot and fresh seafood.

According to local authorities, Vung Tau had around 1,360 accommodation establishments offering more than 22,500 rooms by the end of 2024. Among them, 76 one- to five-star hotels provide more than 8,400 standard rooms. Although occupancy rates typically reach 80-85% during peak holiday periods, local accommodation capacity is expected to comfortably serve thousands of runners and accompanying visitors during the race.
Launched in 2019, the Read Marathon series has become one of Vietnam’s largest running events, attracting nearly 200,000 participants to date. In addition to road races, the organizers also host Aquaman Vietnam, a swim-run competition. The race series aims to promote sports participation while showcasing host destinations through courses that pass iconic landmarks, scenic attractions and cultural sites.
