UK teachers to host classroom experience ahead of school launch in Ho Chi Minh City

Beginning with King’s Spotlight, pupils and parents in Ho Chi Minh City will have the opportunity to connect directly with the global King’s community, through academic programs and experiences delivered by King’s College School, Wimbledon in the UK.

King’s Spotlight will take place from July 7 to 9, 2026, offering pupils aged 6 to 12 a chance to experience lessons taught by teachers from King’s College School, Wimbledon in the UK.

Each session will include two lessons. In the first one, Logical Maths, children work through rich problems built on patterns, shape, number and strategy, building clear thinking and the confidence to tackle the unfamiliar. The second, Language and Communication, helps them explore how language works and how young people use words to collaborate, influence, and lead.

These lessons offer pupils the opportunity to discover how curiosity, challenge, and independent thinking shape learning at King’s. Kieran McLaughlin, Founding Head of School at King’s College Wimbledon HCMC, said that this program is an invitation to families to explore a King’s education ahead of the school opening. “Through these events, children and parents can see what a King’s classroom feels like, meet the teachers, and understand the values that shape everything we do.”

Class sizes will be kept small to encourage interaction between teachers and pupils. Rather than providing direct answers, teachers will use questions and discussion to foster curiosity, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

One of the sessions will be taught by Ted Lougher, who has served as Headmaster of the Junior School since 2021. He graduated with first-class honors from the University of Exeter and earned a master’s degree in education with distinction from the University of Oxford. Before joining the school, he held teaching and leadership positions at Cheltenham College and Clifton College.

He will be joined by Simon Connolly, who has taught at the school since 2014 and currently oversees academic assessment and pupil progress. Connolly was also part of the founding team of the institution’s Bangkok school, where he served as Head of Year 6.

Alongside activities for pupils, the program will include sessions for parents interested in learning more about the school’s educational philosophy and plans in Vietnam. Connolly will discuss the experience of expanding from the U.K. to Bangkok, current trends in primary education, and ways families can support children preparing to enter Year 1.

Parents will also meet Kieran McLaughlin, Founding Head of School, King’s College Wimbledon Ho Chi Minh City, who will introduce the curriculum, educational vision and long-term development plans for the school.

King’s Spotlight takes place at the School Gallery, 179 Vo Nguyen Giap, An Khanh Ward, with two sessions each day for pupils in Years 2-7 (aged 6-12). Pupils join one of two groups, Years 2–4 and Years 5–7, in classes designed for their age. Every session is taught entirely in English.
