Why such a hurry? Big decision of Supreme Court in Ram temple offering theft case, clear refusal of immediate hearing

Supreme Court CBI Probe Ram Mandir Trust: The Supreme Court once again postponed the hearing in the Ram Temple offering theft case. The Supreme Court has refused to immediately hear a petition seeking investigation into alleged irregularities and financial irregularities related to offerings at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya. The Supreme Court said that the case will be heard as per the prescribed procedure.

This petition was filed by lawyers Ajay Kumar Rai and Dinesh Kumar Yadav. It demands registration of an FIR and formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The petitioners allege that there have been serious irregularities in the functioning and financial activities of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, hence an impartial investigation is necessary.

SIT started investigation without FIR

The petition also claims that the SIT constituted by the Uttar Pradesh government has started the investigation without registering any criminal case, which raises questions on the process. It is noteworthy that on June 13, after allegations of theft related to alleged offerings came to light, the state government had formed the SIT. This SIT has submitted its preliminary report to the government on June 23.

When this matter came up for hearing in the Supreme Court, the court asked the petitioners why it was being done in such a hurry. The court remarked that no extraordinary situation would arise if the hearing of the case takes place when regular business resumes after the summer vacations.

Demand for immediate hearing rejected

A bench of Justices MM Sundaresh and Sheel Nagu rejected the plea seeking urgent hearing. The court directed that this petition will be considered in the week of July 12 to 17. Regarding this matter, the petitioners had said that the allegations are serious and in view of the possibility of evidence being tampered with, immediate judicial intervention is necessary. However, the Supreme Court did not consider this argument as sufficient ground for an urgent hearing.
