6 districts of Assam affected by floods, more than 22 thousand people forced to leave their homes
Due to heavy rains and flood like situation in many areas of Assam, life has become disrupted. The railway bridge over the Mensimen river in Dhemji district has been washed away and rail service has been disrupted. Thousands of families have been affected due to floods and people are also having to leave their homes. Many villages have been so flooded that people are forced to walk in waist-deep water. The rain continues continuously, hence the rescue operation is also facing problems. Dhemji district of Assam is located on the border of Arunachal Pradesh. In Arunachal too, there is a scene of devastation due to continuous rains and floods. In this regard, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that he is keeping an eye on Dhemji’s condition and has also sent two ministers Keshav Mahant and Sushant Borgohain to the spot.
Due to this flood, more than 22 thousand people of 6 districts of Assam have been affected. According to data released by the State Disaster Management Authority of Assam, 22,124 people of Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Kokrajhar, Chirang, Nalbari and Dhemji have been affected due to floods. Of these, the most affected is Dhemji and 15,483 people there have been affected by the floods. So far, flood water has entered 96 villages and 1690 hectares of crops have been destroyed.

Regarding the flood situation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has written in a post on ‘X’, ‘I have been continuously monitoring the situation since the flood situation arose in Dhemji. We are deeply saddened by the impact this disaster has had on people’s lives and stand strongly with them in this difficult time. The state government is mobilizing all resources while giving priority to the safety and long-term rehabilitation of all the affected families. He said that Water Resources Minister Sushant Borgohain and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahant have been instructed to stay in Dhemji and monitor the entire relief work.
60 year old bridge broken, railway service disrupted
Chief Public Relations Officer of North East Frontier Railway has said that the train service has been disrupted between Archipathar and Simen Chapri stations. He says that due to rainfall of more than 110 cm, there has been tremendous soil erosion in many areas, river embankments have broken and flood like situations have arisen. The bridge over the Simen River that collapsed was built in 1965 and was completely safe. However, due to continuous rains the soil along the bridge was washed away and the bridge collapsed.

The fortunate thing is that the train movement had already been stopped and no accident happened. In such a situation, train service between Silapathar and Murkongselek in Tinsukia division will remain disrupted till further notice. Trains going in that direction will return from Silapathar. Railways has also arranged buses so that passengers do not face any problem. Besides, help desks have also been set up in Dhemki, Silapathar and Murkongselek.
Malay Kumar Singh, an employee working at Murkongselek railway station, said, ‘Due to the rains in Arunachal, there is difficulty in movement of vehicles here. It has been raining continuously since last night, due to which there is water everywhere.
Due to continuous rains, the water level and flow of Brahmaputra and its tributaries has become very high. Disang river is flowing above the danger mark at Nanglamurghat in Sivasagar district. Along with humans, 48,199 people have also been affected by this flood. More or less, the situation is similar in Arunachal Pradesh also where thousands of people have been affected due to continuous rains. Apart from floods, due to frequent landslides, many villages of Arunachal Pradesh have been cut off and Border Road Organization (BRO) teams are working continuously to reopen the road.
