Big blow to AIADMK, Karur MLA MR Vijayabaskar resigns from Tamil Nadu Assembly
New Delhi:A big news is coming in the politics of Tamil Nadu. The main opposition party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has suffered another big blow on the morning of Monday, June 29. MLA from Karur assembly seat MR Vijaybhaskar has resigned from the assembly membership and also left the party. He has become the sixth MLA to leave AIADMK after the results of the 2026 assembly elections.
Resignation submitted after meeting the Speaker in the Secretariat
Late Chief Minister J. MR Vijayabhaskar, who was the Transport Minister in Jayalalithaa’s government, reached the State Secretariat on Monday morning. There he personally met Assembly Speaker (Speaker) JCD Prabhakar and submitted his handwritten resignation. After examining the rules, the Speaker has accepted his resignation with immediate effect. Vijayabhaskar lost the election to DMK’s V. Senthil Balaji in the 2021 assembly elections. In the recent elections of 2026, he again registered a spectacular victory on Karur seat.
Speculations about joining Chief Minister Vijay’s party TVK
There is strong talk in the political circles that MR Vijayabhaskar may soon turn actor into politician and join the current Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s party ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK). Before him, former Health Minister C. Vijayabhaskar (Viralimalai seat) had also resigned from the party about two weeks ago and he is also expected to join TVK today itself.
Till now these 6 MLAs have left AIADMK
After the election results of 2026, the stampede in Palaniswami group is not showing any signs of stopping. Before Vijaybhaskar, five other MLAs have resigned from the assembly and the party.
- Isakki Subaiah (Ambasamudram)
- P. Satyabhama (Dharapuram)
- Maragatham Kumaravel (Madurantakam)
- S. Jayakumar (Perundurai)
- C. Vijayabhaskar (Viralimalai)
Of these, the first four MLAs have already weakened the opposition by joining the ruling TVK. All these leaders were angry with the unilateral decisions within the party.
Total 7 seats vacant in Tamil Nadu Assembly
After this latest resignation of MR Vijayabhaskar, now a total of 7 seats have become vacant in Tamil Nadu Assembly. The most prominent name among these vacant seats is that of Trichy East. This seat has been vacated by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay himself. He had won the elections from both Trichy East and Perambur assembly seats in the recent elections.
