Sometimes together, sometimes apart, AAP and DMK signed the letter of INDIA alliance written to CJI
The last meeting of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) alliance was held on June 23. Representatives of a total of 21 parties participated in this meeting. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Dravida Munnetra Kadakam (DMK) had distanced themselves from this meeting. Now once again both these parties are seen with INDIA alliance. A letter has been written to the Chief Justice of India (CJI) on behalf of INDIA Coalition on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and other election related issues. Leaders of Congress and Trinamool Congress, included in the INDIA alliance, say that DMK and AAP have also signed it. This shows that parties like AAP and DMK are not able to distance themselves from the INDIA alliance even if they want to.
At present, no information has been given about this letter, what has been written in it and what has been demanded from the CJI. All that has been said is that it is about SIR and the electoral process. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has told that the decision to write a letter to the CJI was taken in the meeting held on June 8 itself. Apart from representatives of 21 political parties, one independent member also attended that meeting. Now a total of 23 parties have signed this joint letter and it will be sent to the CJI today.

Regarding this, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai has said, ‘DMK has signed this letter because the process of SIR is one-sided. This process is anti-democratic. It excludes people from the voting process whereas it aims to involve people in the process. Democracy works on the basis of Universal Adult Franchise but here voters are being excluded from the voter list through SIR. We have also seen its ill effects in Bihar, Bengal and many other states. Therefore, we have signed that there should not be a process like SIR.
In fact, only after the Lok Sabha elections 2024, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had announced that it is no longer a part of the INDIA alliance. At the same time, the alliance of DMK and Congress broke soon after the election results in Tamil Nadu. Since then, DMK is angry with Congress and has also made arrangements to seat its MPs away from Congress in the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the signing of this letter by both the parties means that there is still some hope left and there is still scope for these parties to live together in the times to come.
