School attacked during exams in Nigeria, three including teacher and student killed; Fear of kidnapping of many students
New Delhi: The attack on a secondary school in Borno State of Nigeria spread panic in the entire area. During the examination, armed attackers entered the school premises and attacked indiscriminately. Two teachers and a student died in this incident, while several students are suspected to have been kidnapped after they went missing. Security agencies have started a massive search and rescue operation in the area.
The attack took place at Lasa Day Secondary School in Akira-Uba area of Borno State when students were taking examinations. The sudden attack created chaos in the school and students started running here and there to save their lives. As soon as information about the incident was received, police and security forces reached the spot and surrounded the entire area and started the operation.
According to police officials, 10 people were rescued safely during the initial action. However, it is not yet clear how many students the attackers have taken with them. The search for the missing students is ongoing and security agencies are making every possible effort for their safe return.
Human rights organizations have strongly condemned this attack. He says that schools should be safe places for children and no student should have to risk his or her life while receiving education. Besides, the government has also been demanded to strengthen the security system of schools.
At present no organization has taken responsibility for this attack. However, Borno and this region of north-eastern Nigeria have long been affected by armed militant activities. Terrorist groups operating here have been targeting schools, villages and common citizens in the past, due to which security remains a constant challenge in the area.
Security forces have launched several major operations against militants in recent months. This month, the army had freed more than 300 people from the militants during an operation. Earlier, information about the killing of a large number of terrorists in the joint operation had also come to light. Despite this, the threat of attacks in the area has not completely ended.
After the incident, security has been increased in the entire area. Police and Army are continuously conducting search operations in the areas around the school and trying to trace the missing students. There is an atmosphere of fear among the local people after this attack, while the administration has assured that all necessary steps are being taken to arrest the culprits soon and bring the students back safely.
