Trump celebrates supreme court’s ‘Slaughter Case’ ruling, says decision restores presidential authority

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday welcomed what he described as the most significant ruling issued by the U.S. Supreme Courtsaying the decision in what he referred to as the “Slaughter Case” restores substantial authority to the presidency.

In a post on Truth SocialTrump called the judgment the “biggest and most consequential” decision delivered by the Court, arguing that it overturned the long-established Humphrey’s Executor precedent, which has historically limited presidential authority over certain executive branch officials.

Trump said the question of presidential power has been debated for nearly a century, tracing the issue back to the administration of former President Franklin D. Roosevelt. According to Trump, Roosevelt unsuccessfully sought to reclaim executive authority after judicial decisions restricted aspects of presidential power.

“The biggest and most consequential Decision issued by the Court, by far, is the Slaughter Case,” Trump wrote, adding that the ruling “gives tremendous additional Power back to the Presidency, where it belongs.”

The President also described it as an honour to be serving in office when the decision was delivered, calling it a hard-fought legal victory.

Trump noted that while his administration welcomed several Supreme Court decisions, it was disappointed by the Court’s ruling on birthright citizenship. He reiterated that his administration would continue efforts to address that issue through legislation in Congress.

“We also had the Birthright Citizenship loss, which we will work to correct in Congress,” Trump said, while emphasizing that the ruling on presidential powers represented the administration’s most significant legal success.

The President further stated that the Republican Party had been treated “very fairly” by the Supreme Court and thanked the Court for its decisions.

The Supreme Court’s ruling is expected to have significant implications for the balance of power between the executive branch and independent federal agencies. Legal experts are expected to closely examine the judgment and its impact on the scope of presidential authority.

The White House has not announced any immediate executive actions following the decision, although the ruling is likely to influence future administrative and legal decisions involving executive powers.
