Fans were expecting the debut of 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, but currently the wait has become longer. On the other hand, Jai Mundra has got a chance to debut at the international level in the Ireland team. Jai was born in Rajasthan.
Iyer returns to the team as captain
Iyer last played T20 match for India in December 2023, after which he is returning to the team as captain after about two and a half years. Indian captain Iyer, after winning the toss and choosing to bowl in Belfast, said, ‘We will bowl first. This is a new pitch for us. We are playing in Belfast for the first time. Considering the conditions, environment and wicket, we want to bowl first. We will have to adapt to the conditions here as soon as possible. We will focus on one match at a time. We always say that things should not be difficult.”
No debut for Vaibhav Suryavanshi
15 year old opening batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is not playing in this match. The captain said about the teenage batsman, ‘It is regrettable that Vaibhav is not playing. When the right time comes, they will also get a chance. At present we are going with three fast bowlers and one all-rounder.”
On the other hand, Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker said, ‘I would have won the toss and chosen to bowl. The pitch looks very good. This was a period of change. Sterlo (Paul Sterling) captained the team brilliantly in the last few years. Today Jai (Mundhra) is making his debut.” 8 matches have been played between India and Ireland in T20 format, in which Team India won all the matches. India would like to continue the winning streak in this series also.
