With the south-west monsoon gaining full momentum across the country, the weather has become quite severe. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its latest morning weather bulletin for July 3, 2026. According to meteorologists, a very strong low-pressure area is active over the north-west of the Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coastal areas of northern Odisha-West Bengal. This system is going to become even stronger in the next 2 to 3 days.
Due to the simultaneous activation of this monsoon system and many other cyclonic circulations, today a mega-alert of torrential rain, dangerous lightning and strong storm has been issued in more than 20 states of the country. There will be some respite from rain today and tomorrow in the plains of North India, but from July 5, a new phase of sky disaster is going to start in many states including Delhi-UP.
‘Red alert’ in these 5 states, torrential rains can cause devastation
According to the official bulletin of IMD, today the monsoon is going to show its most ferocious form in five major states of the country. The administration has been asked to be on alert regarding extremely heavy rains in certain districts of these states:

Gujarat and Konkan-Goa: There is a possibility of heavy waterlogging in coastal areas.

Central Maharashtra: Forecast of extremely heavy rain at some places during 3 to 5 July.

West Madhya Pradesh: Possibility of record-breaking rain in different pockets on July 3 and 4.

Odisha: Red alert for torrential to extremely heavy rain in coastal areas within the next 48 hours.
There will be ‘heavy to very heavy’ rain in these states: Lightning warning
The Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for the central, hilly and southern coastal areas of the country and has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall:

Central and Eastern India: There may be very heavy rain with thunder and lightning in Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and East Madhya Pradesh today. The Meteorological Department has issued a strong warning of severe lightning in entire Central India.

North-West India: There is an alert of heavy rain amid fear of landslides in many areas of the hilly states Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. At the same time, in East Rajasthan the weather will be pleasant between 3rd to 6th July and there will be very heavy rains.

South India: Monsoon winds rising from the sea will cause heavy rains in the areas of Kerala, Mahe and coastal Karnataka.

Monsoon activity continues in other plain states of the country including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar:

Uttar Pradesh and Bihar: There is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh (both eastern and western parts) and Bihar today. After light to moderate rain in these two states on 3 and 4 July Between 5th and 7th July The second most extensive and violent phase of monsoon will be seen.

Delhi, Haryana and Punjab: Today and tomorrow (July 3-4) only light sporadic showers will fall in the country’s capital Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab, due to which the humidity may increase. Other states: There is a yellow alert of heavy rain on July 3-4 in Marathwada, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand (from July 4 to 8), Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and northeastern states (Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura).
Storm will blow at a speed of 60 km/hour, weather department warns
Along with the rain, IMD has issued warnings of intense thunderstorm and damaging winds in many parts of the country:

Gusts 40-50 km/h (gusts up to 60 km/h): There is a possibility of dusty storm and lightning today in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, hilly areas of UP-Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Andaman-Nicobar Islands.

30-40 km/h speed: Winds will blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Kerala and entire Karnataka.

Sultry Torture: The weather will remain very hot and humid with the temperature increasing in the plains of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya from July 3 to 6.
Red warning for fishermen: Complete ban on going into the sea till July 7
In view of the high waves in the sea, stormy winds and extremely poor visibility, the Meteorological Department has given strict instructions to fishermen to stay away from the coastal areas:

Condition of Arabian Sea: Stormy winds are blowing at the speed of 45-55 km per hour (gusts up to 65 km per hour) along the coasts of Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and Karnataka as well as in the coastal areas of Somalia and Oman. The weather will be dangerous in Kerala and Lakshadweep during July 3 to 5. to the fishermen Till 7th July 2026 It has been advised not to enter the sea.

Condition of Bay of Bengal: The weather will remain completely stormy in Central, North and South Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea including the coasts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. The wind speed here can reach 60 km/hour.
According to meteorologists, at present many powerful systems (Multi-Weather Systems) are working simultaneously in the atmosphere of the country. The main monsoon trough line is currently extending from Rajasthan to the low-pressure area of the Bay of Bengal. Also, due to the collision of the off-shore trough extending from South Gujarat to Karnataka and the Western Disturbance coming from Pakistan, this torrential rain is being seen all over India.
