India Defense Procurement 52000 Crore: By the Ministry of Defence A significant step has been taken towards making the country’s armed forces more modern and powerful. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh Under his chairmanship, ‘Acceptance of Necessity’ (AoN) was approved on Friday for ‘Capital Defense Procurement’ projects worth around Rs 52,000 crore.
The proposals approved at the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting are aimed at strengthening the combat capabilities, surveillance systems, air defense and preparedness of the three armed forces to face future battlefield challenges. DAC has approved the purchase of several critical systems for the Indian Army. These include the ‘Akash Tarang’ anti-drone electronic warfare system, shoulder-portable anti-tank guided missile system, medium-range surface-to-air missile system, ultra-short-range air defense system, ‘Active Protection System’ for tanks and jet-based ‘Kamikaze’ drone systems.

The ‘Akash Tarang’ system will protect the army’s frontline units and important military bases from enemy drone attacks; The system is capable of detecting drones, jamming their signals and disabling them. At the same time, anti-tank missiles will increase the strength of the infantry. The shoulder-carried anti-tank guided missile system will make the Army’s infantry units more effective against enemy tanks and armored vehicles, significantly increasing the firepower of frontline soldiers. Medium- and ultra-short-range air defense systems will play an important role in countering enemy fighter jets, helicopters, drones and other aerial threats.
Equipped with multi-spectral sensors, this new system will work effectively despite electronic restraint measures. The ‘Active Protection System’ will be able to intercept surface-to-air missiles and rockets, increasing the survivability of tanks on the battlefield. In addition, the new generation of jet-based ‘kamikaze’ drones will be able to accurately strike critical enemy targets. Their high speed, superior electronic warfare capabilities, increased firepower and cost-effectiveness could play a decisive role in future conflicts.

Approval has been given to procure ‘multi-influence naval mines’ (multi-influence sea tunnels) and unmanned aerial systems (UAS) operated by naval ships, as well as land-based testing facilities for electric propulsion systems for the Indian Navy. ‘Multi-influence naval mines’ will help restrict enemy warships and naval movements.
This will strengthen the security of maritime areas. These new unmanned aerial systems, equipped with advanced sensors, will help the Navy in long-range maritime surveillance, detection of suspicious movements and ‘real-time’ (instant) intelligence gathering. The test facility for the new propulsion system will play a critical role in the development and testing of the Navy’s future ships and systems.
Meanwhile, proposals for the Indian Air Force have also been approved, including a ‘fixed-wing high-altitude pseudo-satellite’ (HAPS) system. This state-of-the-art system will be able to stay aloft for extended periods of time to perform intelligence gathering, surveillance, communication services and ‘remote sensing’ tasks. This will greatly aid the Air Force’s efforts to continuously monitor the border and strategically important areas.
The approval by the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) is seen as a significant step towards India’s defense modernization and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. According to the Ministry of Defence, the induction of these systems will greatly enhance the combat readiness, technological superiority and ability to face future challenges of the three armed forces. Along with conventional weapons, India is now rapidly focusing on modern combat tools such as drones, electronic warfare capabilities, smart missiles and advanced surveillance systems.
