Before the assembly elections to be held in Punjab next year, the internal politics of Congress has started coming to the fore. Senior party leader and former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has sparked a new discussion in political circles by holding an important meeting with his supporting leaders in Chamkaur Sahib. This meeting is being seen as a show of strength within the Congress, because many senior leaders and former ministers attended it.

According to sources, organizational changes and state leadership were discussed in detail in the meeting. It is believed that this matter may reach the central leadership of the party in the coming days.

Will go to Delhi and meet the high command

According to the information, after the meeting, Charanjit Singh Channi will go to Delhi along with his supporting leaders and meet the Congress high command. For this, a special committee has also been formed, which will present its views before the party leadership.

Apart from Charanjit Singh Channi, Rana Gurjit Singh, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, OP Soni and Bharat Bhushan Ashu have been included in this committee. It is believed that this delegation will present its opinion regarding the organizational structure and leadership of Punjab Congress to the top leadership.

Questions raised regarding the state president

Sources claim that the Channi camp is not satisfied with the leadership of the current state Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading. This issue was discussed openly in the meeting and the need for change in the organization was emphasized.

It is being told that a demand was raised by the supporters that before the assembly elections, the command of the party should be handed over to a leader who can unite the workers in the entire state. In this context, the name of Charanjit Singh Channi was also put forward.

Presence of many senior leaders in the meeting

Many senior Congress leaders and former ministers participated in this meeting held at Chamkaur Sahib. Many prominent leaders including Rana Gurjit Singh, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, OP Soni, Sukh Sarkaria, Balveer Singh Sidhu, Raminder Awala, Barinder Dhillon, Kiki Dhillon, Ladi Sherowalia, Madan Lal Jalalpur, Angad Saini were present.

The presence of a large number of senior leaders is being seen as an indication of Channi’s political influence and his hold on the organization.

Supporters raised demand to make Channi the state president

Recently, the Congress high command had retained Amarinder Singh Raja Vading as the state president, while Charanjit Singh Channi was made the chairman of the election campaign committee for the assembly elections. However, Channi supporters believe that the party needs strong leadership before the elections and for this he should be made the state president.

Supporters argue that during his tenure as Chief Minister, Channi had created his own identity across the state and he is a popular leader among different sections.

Leaders gave open warning

After the meeting, some leaders also expressed their opinions openly. Former MLA Darshan Singh Brar said that if change is not made in the organizational leadership, the upcoming assembly elections will not be easy for the Congress. He said that the party needs strong and acceptable leadership.

At the same time, former minister Gurpreet Kangar also said that to go among the public in the elections, there should be such a face on whom both the workers and the voters have trust.

Political turmoil may increase in the coming days

The increasing internal strife in Punjab Congress has come to light at a time when the party is busy preparing for the assembly elections. Now all eyes are on what decision the Congress leadership takes in the possible meeting to be held in Delhi.

If there is any major change at the organizational level, it may also impact the election strategy of Punjab Congress. At the same time, if the current system remains intact, then factionalism and dissatisfaction within the party may remain a topic of discussion in future also.
