Continuous torrential rains have created flood-like conditions in many states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. Roads are submerged in many areas, rivers are in spate and the administration has had to speed up relief and rescue operations. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), monsoon may cover the entire country by July 5, while the next 24 hours are going to be very important in many states.

Flood like situation in Gujarat, rescue of 19 people

The situation has worsened due to continuous rains in Junagadh and Rajkot districts of Gujarat. Four vehicles, including a four-wheeler, an auto-rickshaw and an Eeco, got stuck in the sudden flood near Samdhiyala village in Menderda area of ​​Junagadh. The administration and rescue team took timely action and evacuated all 19 people safely. At the same time, traffic has been affected due to water logging on roads in Dhrol area of ​​Rajkot.

Impact of rain in Maharashtra, school-college closed in Palghar

Schools and colleges have been closed as a precautionary measure in view of the warning of heavy rain in Palghar district of Maharashtra. Passengers are facing a lot of trouble due to knee-deep water outside Nalasopara railway station adjacent to Mumbai. People have to reach the station through waterlogging.

Due to torrential rains in Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur, the minor operation theater of the state’s largest Sawai Mansingh (SMS) hospital was flooded. Rivers in spate in Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain alert in 19 districts

In Madhya Pradesh, heavy rain was recorded in more than 26 districts including Bhopal, Indore. A young man trying to cross the swollen bridge in Ujjain was swept away along with his motorcycle in the strong current. Due to rise in the water level of Shipra river, many temples located on the banks of the river have been submerged. At the same time, while crossing the bridge in Dindori, a car was washed away in the strong current of the river. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rain in 19 districts including Indore, Ujjain, while a red alert has been issued in Barwani and Khandwa with a possibility of up to 8 inches of rain in the next 24 hours.

Record rain in Uttar Pradesh, alert in 28 districts

The effect of monsoon is continuously increasing in Uttar Pradesh also. Kanpur recorded 108 mm rainfall on July 3, which is said to be a record of the last 15 years. Heavy rains led to waterlogging in the GSVM Medical College campus, leaving many vehicles submerged in water. Railway underpasses in Mathura are neck-deep in water, due to which traffic has been completely disrupted. In Jhansi, a farmer working in the field died due to lightning. Even today, the Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy rain, storm and lightning in 28 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Meteorological Department’s advice

The Indian Meteorological Department has appealed to people to stay away from rivers, streams and waterlogged areas during heavy rains. Leave the house only when necessary and follow the guidelines issued by the local administration. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue in many parts of the country for the next few days.
