How is Charanjit Singh Channi stoking the fire of rebellion in Punjab Congress? inside story

Punjab Congress, trying to end factionalism within the party, adjusted all the leaders and announced the team for the assembly elections to be held in 2027. Since the release of the list, some leaders of Punjab Congress have remained silent and former CM Charanjit Singh Channi seems angry.

Former CM Channi was hopeful that the party would hand over the command of the state to him in place of Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding. However, this did not happen and the party kept Raja Wading and Pratap Singh Bajwa on the post of President and CLP. Since then Channi is said to be angry with the party. Channi has been made the chairman of the campaign committee. However, Channi did not even thank the high command on being made the chairman of the campaigning committee. Chandigarh MP Manish Tiwari is openly expressing his displeasure.

Will Channi rebel?

A trend has been clearly seen in the last several elections in Punjab Congress that whoever becomes the President of the party, the party makes him the CM after the victory. Even in the 2022 elections, Channi had declared himself the CM face when he was not on the chair of the President. Now the challenge before Channi is that if the elections are fought under the leadership of Raja Vading, then he can get priority in the CM race. Channi is uncomfortable in such a situation.

Channi’s rebellion is being discussed in Punjab politics. Channi and his supporters have not yet accepted the decision of the Congress party. Today at 11 am, Channi has called a meeting of his supporting MPs, MLAs and civic in-charges at his residence. There is talk of arrival of two to three MPs, 10 to 12 MLAs and around 40 local in-charges in the meeting. Leaders close to Channi believe that Channi is now in a make-or-break mood. Till the time of writing the news, information about the arrival of some leaders in this meeting has come to light, among which the arrival of former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu has been confirmed.

What is Raja Vading doing?

Congress Party President Raja Vading has been given a chance by the party to contest the elections as its President. In such a situation, Raja will be the face of the wedding party. However, it will be difficult for him to end factionalism in the party. Raja Vading is currently hoping from the high command that some order will come from Delhi to stop this rebellion. Channi is now said to be in a cross mood. Channi’s demand was that either he should be made the head or he should be declared the CM face. However, the party has rejected both his demands. Channi can hold a meeting with his supporters today and discuss the future strategy. Being a popular leader of the Dalit community, a large section of people are associated with Channi. In such a situation, Channi will put pressure on the Congress high command to get his demands met. Despite this, if the high command does not agree, then Channi can also consider rebelling against the party. If Channi gets the support of his supporters, he can follow the path of Captain Amarinder Singh and form a separate party. Channi had won the first assembly elections as an independent.
