‘No need for Pushpa and Singham’, Bihar BJP MLA sentenced to 4 years imprisonment

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has sentenced BJP MLA Raju Kumar Singh from Sahibganj assembly seat in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar to four years of imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh. In 2018, a woman lost her life in the MLA’s firing. On Saturday, Rouse Avenue Court’s special judge Vishal Gogne booked the BJP MLA under section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). convicted of culpable homicide under. He was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment in the case of culpable homicide and two months’ imprisonment under the Arms Act.

 

On the night of 31 December 2018, New Year’s Eve celebrations were going on at a farmhouse in Fatehpur Beri, South Delhi. Meanwhile, 45-year-old architect Arjana Gupta was shot dead in the harsh firing. Now the fine of Rs 25 lakh imposed on the MLA will be given to Archana’s family as compensation. At the same time, after four years of imprisonment, Raju Kumar’s legislative power is under threat.

Court said- MLAs were intoxicated with power

The court, in its 34-page decision, said that Raju Kumar Singh was clearly intoxicated with power and wanted to show his status by opening fire. Such actions promote the circulation of illegal weapons and because of this the interference of musclemen in politics has increased.

‘No need for Pushpa-Singham’

Special Judge Vishal Gogne said, ‘In a state with rule of law, we neither need ‘Singham’ nor ‘Pushpa’. However, the fearless firing of Raju Kumar Singh boosted the thinking of both of them.

‘Can’t be treated differently just because we are MLAs’

The court also said that just because a convict has done public service in the past, he cannot be given nominal punishment. Government post… especially the elected post, is a post of respect and public trust. When a public representative commits a serious crime, this respect and trust is tarnished and violated. The Court said that the convict cannot be given different or special treatment in the matter of punishment merely because he is an MLA.

Assembly membership can also be snatched away

Let us tell you that on June 6 last month, the court had convicted the MLA. Apart from this, MLA’s wife Renu Singh and two others were acquitted giving the benefit of doubt. After getting a four-year sentence from the court, Raju Kumar Singh may also have to lose his legislature under the Representation of the People Act. The Times of India quoted a Bihar Assembly official as saying that he would be the first MLA to lose his membership after being convicted in a criminal case.
