Harsh firing took its toll, BJP MLA Raju Singh gets 4 years jail in case of female doctor’s death; Legislation is certain
Raju Kumar Singh Sentence: Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court has sentenced Bihar MLA Raju Kumar Singh to 4 years imprisonment in the case of death by firing during New Year party celebrations on December 31, 2018. Besides, the court has also ordered a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the husband of the deceased woman.
In such a situation, his loss of legislative power is considered certain. Earlier on Friday, the court had reserved its decision on the punishment period after hearing the arguments of both the parties.
The court had convicted MLA Raju Kumar Singh under Section 304 Part 2 of the IPC and 30 Arms Act. On December 31, 2018, during the New Year party, a female doctor, Archana Gupta, was shot dead at the farmhouse of Bihar MLA Raju Singh in Basant Kunj, Delhi.
Two other accused including wife acquitted
Last month, Rouse Avenue Court had convicted Raju Kumar Singh under various sections. The court held that firing from a licensed pistol in a crowded place was an act in which the accused had full knowledge of the possibility of death. But, on the basis of lack of sufficient evidence, the court had acquitted his wife Renu Singh and two other co-accused, Rana Rajesh Singh and Ramendra Singh, giving them the benefit of doubt.
