New Delhi. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that the report of the three-member committee investigating corruption allegations against Allahabad High Court Justice Yashwant Verma will be presented in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. Monsoon session is starting from 20th July. In such a situation, despite the resignation of Justice Verma, the discussion on the possibility of action against him in Parliament has intensified. At a program of West Bengal MLAs, Om Birla told that the investigation committee headed by Supreme Court Justice Arvind Kumar has submitted its report to him. He said that after the report is presented in Parliament, the House will decide on further action.

Report may be presented on the first day

According to sources, the investigation report can be placed in the Lok Sabha on the first day of the monsoon session itself. It is being told that the proposal to remove Justice Verma was signed by the MPs of both the ruling party and the opposition. Along with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, senior BJP leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad and Anurag Thakur were also among those who supported this proposal.

Legal questions remain even after resignation

Justice Yashwant Verma was facing serious allegations of financial irregularities. In March last year, after a fire incident at his official residence in New Delhi, a large amount of burnt currency notes were allegedly found. After this, there was a demand for action against him and he was sent back from Delhi High Court to Allahabad High Court.
Although Justice Verma has submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu in April this year, there is no clear opinion among legal experts whether the process of removing him under the Judges Inquiry Act can continue even after his resignation or not. It is being told that his name is still included in the list of sitting judges on the website of Allahabad High Court.

He declared himself innocent during investigation

Justice Verma had declared himself innocent before the internal inquiry committee constituted by the then Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and the subsequent inquiry committee. He had said that he had no idea how the huge amount of money allegedly recovered from his residence reached there. Now all eyes are on the monsoon session of Parliament starting from July 20, where the direction of further action can be decided after the presentation of the investigation report of this matter.
