Husband, girlfriend held in Gurugram bride’s murder, Police say they fled to Nepal after killing

Gurugram Police have arrested a 25-year-old man and his alleged girlfriend in connection with the murder of his newly-married wife, who was found shot dead last month in Haryana’s Manesar. Investigators allege the husband conspired with his girlfriend to kill the victim before the two fled to Nepal in an attempt to evade arrest.

According to police, the accused, identified as Ankitand his alleged girlfriend, I saw Deviwere arrested after returning to India on June 30. The duo had allegedly escaped to Nepal via Haridwar following the murder.

The case began on May 22when the victim’s mother filed a missing person complaint, stating that her 22-year-old daughter, Madhuhad been missing since the previous day.

Madhu had married Ankit, a resident of Manesaron February 19. In her complaint, the victim’s mother alleged that Ankit and his family were withholding information about her daughter’s whereabouts and expressed suspicion over their involvement in her disappearance.

During the investigation, police recovered Madhu’s body from a rented room in Manesar. She had sustained bullet injuries. Investigators also found that the woman who had been residing in the rented accommodation was missing.

According to Gurugram Police, Ankit operated a tobacco shop in Manesar, where he became acquainted with 38-year-old Rajni Devia resident of Aurangabad village in Jhajjar districtwho worked at a nearby beauty parlour.

Police allege that the two entered into a criminal conspiracy to eliminate Madhu.

“Investigation revealed that on May 21Ankit allegedly took his wife to Rajni’s rented room as part of a pre-planned conspiracy, where he shot her dead. It was further revealed that the firearm used in the murder had been procured by Ankit from Uttar Pradesh about two months before the incident,” a police officer said.

Following the alleged murder, the accused travelled to Haridwar before crossing into Nepal. Police said they returned to India on June 30, after which they were tracked down and arrested.

The accused were produced before a local court, which granted five days of police custody to facilitate further interrogation and recovery of evidence, including the weapon used in the crime.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional evidence is being collected to establish the sequence of events and the alleged conspiracy behind the killing.
