Big responsibility to Alok Mittal of Haryana, Central Government appointed new Director General of BPR&D; Know why this post is so important
New Delhi. The Central Government has entrusted a big responsibility to Alok Mittal, a senior IPS officer of 1993 batch of Haryana cadre. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved his appointment to the post of Director General (DG) of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). According to the order issued by the Home Ministry, Alok Mittal will work on this post from the date of assuming charge till June 30, 2029 or till further orders, whichever is earlier.
BPR&D is the country’s apex police research and development organization working under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. This organization conducts important work related to modernization of police system across the country, research, training, development of forensic techniques, police reforms and capacity building. BPR&D also plays an important role in adopting new technologies in the field of policing and establishing better coordination between the Center and the states. In such a situation, the post of its Director General is counted among the most important posts in the police system of the country.
Alok Mittal has a long and varied experience of over three decades in the police service. In Haryana, he has served on many important posts including DG Jail, DG Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), ADGP CID, ADGP Law and Order. Apart from this, he has also been the Managing Director of Haryana Police Housing Corporation and Additional Resident Commissioner in Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi.
His experience in central agencies has also been noteworthy. He handled the investigation of cases related to economic offenses and cyber crimes in the CBI, while leading several sensitive cases as Inspector General in the National Investigation Agency (NIA). For his excellent contribution to the police service, he has been awarded the Police Medal in 2009 and the President’s Police Medal in 2016. This decision of the Central Government is being considered important in the direction of police research, technological innovation and police modernization. Under the leadership of Alok Mittal as an experienced officer, BPR&D is expected to give further impetus to police reforms, cyber crime control, modern training system and effective use of new technologies.
