Do fish farming in Bihar, government will give 60% subsidy, applicable in 38 districts
Patna: The Bihar government has launched a new initiative aimed at promoting fisheries and saving the dwindling numbers of traditional indigenous fish. Under this scheme implemented for the financial year 2026-27, financial assistance will be provided to fish farmers, so that they can rear indigenous species in a scientific manner. The government believes that this will increase fish production, strengthen rural employment and also increase the income of farmers.
Special focus will be on conservation of local fishes
The numbers of many local fish species of Bihar have been continuously declining in the last few years. In view of this challenge, the government has decided to encourage conservation and commercial rearing of such species. Under the scheme, activities like minor carp, cat fish, air-breathing fishes, shrimp and pearl production will be promoted. This will not only conserve biodiversity but will also increase the production of species with good demand in the market.
Beneficiaries will get up to 60 percent grant
Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be provided a grant up to 60 percent of the fixed project cost. With this assistance, the financial burden of starting or expanding fish farming will be significantly reduced and more people will be motivated to join this business.
