Jalandhar: Former Indian hockey team captain Manpreet Singh was given a warm welcome in his native village Mitthapur. Manpreet and his family were honored with flower garlands in a function organized under the leadership of Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli.

Nitin Kohli said that Manpreet Singh has set a new world record by playing 413 international hockey matches, which is a matter of pride for Jalandhar, Punjab and the entire country. He said that players like Manpreet are a source of inspiration for the new generation and he is confident that he will play more international matches for Indian hockey in the future.

Appeal to adopt sports

Manpreet Singh appealed to the youth to stay away from drugs and take up sports. Expressing his gratitude to the Central and Punjab Governments, he said that the hockey grounds developed in the villages are proving to be a boon for the players. Due to these facilities, new talents are emerging and Indian hockey is getting stronger.

Manpreet told that his hockey journey started from the same ground of Mitthapur, which is called the ‘Mecca of Hockey’. Today, coming out of the same ground and creating a world record of playing 413 international matches is a proud moment for him. He dedicated this achievement to his village, family and country.

Manpreet expressed confidence that the Indian hockey team will perform brilliantly in the upcoming World Cup, Asian Champions Trophy, Asian Games and 2028 Olympics. He said that the coordination of junior and senior players in the Pro League has strengthened the morale of the team and India’s dream of winning the gold medal in the Olympics will definitely come true.
