K2 Airways Crash: Cargo plane going from Sharjah to Karachi found, five crew members identified
A cargo plane of K2 Airways met with an accident while going from Sharjah to Karachi. This plane was found in the Arabian Sea. All five crew members on board the plane have died in the accident, who have been identified.
This accident happened on 7 July 2026. The aircraft, Flight KTA1732, which was a Boeing 737, disappeared from radar at around 9:21 pm. A few minutes before this, Karachi Area Control Center was informed about the problem in the navigation system. The plane then descended rapidly and was found about 53 nautical miles south of Omarara.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep grief over this tragic incident and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. He directed Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan Navy and Air Force to intensify rescue operations and search for missing personnel. Pakistan Airports Authority activated the Rescue Coordination Centre, while Pakistan Navy deployed ships like PNS Zulfiqar in search operations.
K2 Airways has issued a statement revealing the names of the five crew members. These included Pilot Mohammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Mahmood, Load Master Mohammad Taufiq Khan and Engineers Arif Siddiqui and Mohammad Hamid. The airline said it is fully cooperating in the investigation.
Preliminary data from Flightradar24 showed that the plane was about 27.5 years old. During the flight, the aircraft suddenly dropped in altitude and changed direction. Experts indicated that the aircraft may have encountered GNSS interference after takeoff.
This aircraft was earlier used as a passenger plane for Aeroflot and Garuda Indonesia. In 2012, it was converted into a cargo aircraft and in 2024, K2 Airways included it in its service. Officials are now examining flight data and communication records to determine the exact cause of the accident.
