Shribhoomi- Tension prevailed in the entire area after the body of an eight-year-old girl was found in Madanmohan area of Shribhoomi district of Assam. The family members have alleged that the girl was murdered after being raped. In protest against the incident, local people blocked the national highway and demanded strict action against the accused. According to local people, the girl was missing since Wednesday morning, 8th July. After a long search, his bloody body was recovered from a forest near Madanmohan.
Based on the complaint of family members, the police have started investigation by keeping a 19-year-old local youth under suspicion. However, police say that investigation into the case is ongoing and further action will be taken based on the post-mortem report and other evidence. As soon as information about the incident was received, a large number of villagers gathered at the spot. People demonstrated on the national highway demanding immediate arrest of the accused and stringent punishment, leading to traffic disruption for some time.
To control the situation, Shribhoomi Sadar police station and senior officials reached the spot. The police tried to pacify the protesters and assured a fair and speedy investigation. Police have sent the girl’s body to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem. According to officials, all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated and legal action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
