The tension between America and Iran has once again reached a dangerous point. The US has taken large-scale military action against Iran following alleged attacks on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Many important military and strategic targets in southern and south-eastern Iran were targeted in the American attacks.
US President Donald Trump claimed that America has given a more powerful response to Iran than ever before and such action will continue if needed. Meanwhile, Trump also said that Iran now wants to negotiate, but the question is whether it can be trusted to follow any agreement.
Major locations targeted during the US military action include Jask, Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Abu Musa Island, Maritime Traffic Control Tower of Chabahar Port, Bushehr, Railway Bridge in Akala region of northern Iran and Iranshahr (Balochistan province). It is being told that for the first time the railway network of Northern Iran was also targeted.
According to the Axios report, a senior US official was quoted as saying that the US Air Force also bombed two railway bridges in Iran on Wednesday. This has also strengthened the news of targeting of the railway line located near the Turkmenistan border in Golestan province of north-eastern Iran.
The US strikes also targeted the Salman Command headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Iranshahr, south-eastern Iran. Apart from this, along with Iranshahr, many strategic areas including Chabahar, Konark, Bandar Abbas, Jask, Sirik and Qeshm were also attacked.
Speaking to the media aboard Air Force One as he returned to Washington after the NATO summit in Turkey, President Donald Trump said the US took action in response to attacks on commercial shipping. Trump said that America retaliated very strongly on Iran and if Iran attacks again, America will respond with 20 times more force.
He said that last night also the attack was carried out under the same policy and the action taken on Wednesday was also a part of the same retaliatory operation. Trump claimed that Iran had targeted not two but three ships.
Trump said that Iran wants to talk after America’s new attacks. However, he questioned whether Tehran would respect any agreement. Trump said that he does not know whether Iran will follow any agreement or not and this is the biggest problem. When asked why Iran attacked the ships if it wanted a deal, Trump said the situation was not normal and the situation was largely out of control, but Iran was desperate for a deal.
Trump reiterated that the entire action is aimed at preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He said that this campaign is related to the de-nuclearization of Iran and America will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons at any cost.
Trump also rejected speculation that the last-minute decision to change the plane while returning from Turkey was due to a security threat. He said that the decision to change the aircraft was taken only so that the people present at the airbase could see the aircraft. When asked if there was any threat to Air Force One from Iran, he said that he always puts Iran first on his list.
