Seven-member committee formed for UCC draft in Maharashtra!

The Maharashtra government has taken a major step towards implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in the state. The government has decided to set up a seven-member high-level committee under the chairmanship of retired judge Justice Ranjana Desai to draft the UCC and study various aspects related to it.

Announcing this in the Assembly on Thursday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the names of the committee members have also been decided.

The Chief Minister said that this committee will study in detail all the legal, social and administrative aspects related to the Uniform Civil Code. Apart from this, it will prepare a report with its recommendations after considering the suggestions and essential aspects of various stakeholders.

The committee has been given six months to submit its report. The government says that after receiving the report, the final draft of the Uniform Civil Code will be prepared on its basis.

Devendra Fadnavis said that the state government aims to introduce a bill related to the Uniform Civil Code in the upcoming Nagpur winter assembly session.

The government will endeavor to present this bill in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council and get it passed after completing the necessary procedures. He said that the government is working rapidly in this direction, so that the process of implementing UCC can proceed in a time bound manner.

The purpose of the Uniform Civil Code is to provide uniform treatment to all citizens in laws relating to marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption and family matters. This initiative of Maharashtra Government is being considered an important step towards implementing UCC in the state. Now everyone will be keeping an eye on the report of the committee and the further action of the government in the upcoming winter session.
