‘Why always Sanju…’ This statement of the Team India legend will sting Gambhir!

Ever since Team India went on the United Kingdom (UK) tour, it has forgotten to win. After the 0-2 defeat in Ireland, the Indian team is now getting beaten in England. The team captained by Shreyas Iyer has lost the next three matches after the first T20 match against England was washed out due to rain. Now the fifth and last match of the series between the two teams is to be played on Saturday (July 11). Earlier, questions have been raised on the exclusion of Team India’s former wicketkeeper batsman Parthiv Patel.

Sanju was dropped after the first match on the England tour. In his place, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was included in the playing XI. Despite this change, Team India has not been able to win. Parthiv has criticized the team management and said that why is Sanju always left out? He termed the decision to drop Sanju for Vaibhav as irrational.

Sanju was the Player of the Tournament in T20 World Cup 2026. He played an important role in making Team India the champion by playing three memorable innings in three consecutive matches. However, he had to remain on the bench in the initial matches of the tournament. Then Ishan Kishan replaced him. Sanju was sacrificed for Shubman Gill before the T20 World Cup. That means Sanju had to go in and out three times under the coaching of Gautam Gambhir.

Sanju was made to sit out without any reason – Parthiv

Sanju was included in the playing XI in the last stage of the T20 World Cup. Living up to the trust of the management, Sanju led the team. At that time everyone felt that he had cemented his place but after the T20 World Cup where he failed in 3 matches, he was sidelined. Taking forward the debate on playing Vaibhav in place of Sanju, Parthiv said that giving a place to this young batsman in the team is an emotionally correct decision but it is irrational to exclude the senior batsman from the team for this.

Parthiv also admitted that in the past, Samson was dropped from the team due to lack of consistency but he sees no reason to drop him in the current series against England. He told Geostar, ‘Why is Sanju Samson always left out? If you look at Sanju Samson’s career in the last 11-12 years, one thing has been following him from the beginning and that is the lack of consistency in his game.

Parthiv further said, ‘Either that player is dropped who is not able to score runs fast or is not performing well consistently. You cannot take decisions based on both emotions and logic. Therefore, giving a chance to Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the right decision emotionally but if we talk about logic then the question arises why Sanju Samson was dropped? I think this decision was taken on emotional grounds.
