New Delhi. BJP has declared its candidate for the by-election to be held on Datia assembly seat of Madhya Pradesh. BJP has fielded Ashutosh Tiwari as its official candidate. With the announcement of Ashutosh’s name, BJP has once again surprised everyone because the ticket of former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister and senior leader Dr. Narottam Mishra was considered almost certain on this seat. Narottam Mishra’s hopes have suffered a setback due to not getting the ticket, while his supporters have also become disappointed. Voting for Datia by-election will be held on July 30. Counting of votes will take place on August 3.

Ashutosh Tiwari is a resident of Datia and has been associated with BJP for a long time. He has long experience of working in the organization. He has also been a dedicated worker of the Sangh. He is the state cell in-charge of BJP. He has also been the Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Housing Board from 2020 to 2023. He has been responsible for organizational expansion and co-ordination of medical, law, business, IT, environment, cooperative and other cells of BJP. After the ticket was announced, Ashutosh Tiwari said, I am a very small worker, he expressed his gratitude to the party leadership for giving me the ticket. When asked by journalists whether Narottam Mishra would campaign for him, Tiwari said that it is natural, he is a big leader of our party.

Why are by-elections taking place?

In the 2023 assembly elections, Congress’s Rajendra Bharti defeated BJP’s Narottam Mishra from Datia seat. In the 1998 Datia Co-operative Rural Development Bank FD fraud scam case, he was sentenced to three years imprisonment by the MP-MLA court. Due to this, his assembly membership was canceled and this is the reason why by-elections have to be held in Datia. He challenged this decision in the High Court but his petition was rejected there.
