Venezuela Earthquake Death Toll Rises: Venezuela is currently experiencing one of the largest natural disasters in its modern history. After the massive earthquake that occurred on June 24, relief and rescue operations are continuing, but as time is passing, the number of casualties is increasing drastically.

According to the latest figures released by Venezuelan National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the death toll in this tragedy has increased to 4,118. Debris is still being removed with the help of heavy machinery in the most affected areas.

Increasing number of homeless people

The intensity of the earthquake can be gauged from the fact that the total number of injured across the country has reached 16,740. Administration and rescue teams have so far managed to rescue 6,462 people safely from the debris. However, the devastation has taken away the roof over the heads of thousands of people.

According to the report, around 17,907 people have been left homeless as their homes have been completely destroyed or declared unsafe. Currently 17,266 people are taking shelter in 89 temporary camps set up across the country. The government has so far provided assistance in some form or the other to 86,794 affected families.

Rescue operation continues on war footing

Relief operations are going on a war footing in the epicenter and surrounding areas of the earthquake. 30,076 security personnel and personnel have been deployed across the country, who are supported by 29,843 volunteers. Not only this, in this time of crisis, 3,454 international rescue team members from all over the world are also present on the ground to help Venezuela.

The seriousness of the situation can be gauged from the fact that since the main earthquake, 1,171 small and big tremors have been felt in the area, which is hampering rescue operations.

Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodriguez has expressed gratitude for this global solidarity. He told that 28 countries of the world have offered humanitarian help in this time of disaster. A huge relief material collection center has been set up in the capital Caracas, where more than 2,000 tons of international aid material is being organized.

Rodriguez said Venezuela never gets tired of thanking the countries and governments that have extended a helping hand. He expressed confidence that with the help of this international cooperation, Venezuela will rise again and rebuild the affected areas.

7 days of national mourning

The acting President has declared seven days of national mourning to pay tribute to the victims of the earthquake and express condolences to the bereaved families. In his emotional message on social media, he wrote that in this sad time, the government stands with those who have lost their loved ones. The administration has also decided to set up several more temporary camps to help the homeless people so that no one is forced to live under the open sky.
