BSNL launches satellite phone worth ₹ 1.34 lakh, calling will be possible without mobile network
New Delhi. Government telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has launched its state-of-the-art satellite phone. The total price of this phone including tax has been fixed at ₹ 1,34,166. The company has introduced it under the theme ‘Communication Beyond Boundaries’. Its main objective is to provide uninterrupted connectivity in those remote and inaccessible areas of the country where mobile towers are not present. Let us tell you that this phone has been developed in collaboration with global satellite network provider Inmarsat, which works by directly connecting the SIM card to the satellite present in space.

Main features of the phone
Direct Satellite Connectivity: This handset does not depend on ground-based mobile towers. It is directly connected to the satellite. Due to which voice calls and SMS can be made directly even in off-grid places like snowy mountains, deep sea or dense forests.
Emergency SOS Button: The SOS button is a dedicated physical feature that when pressed transmits the user’s real-time GPS location and distress signal to the rescue team in case of an emergency or natural disaster.
Rugged and Strong Design: It has been made extremely strong to withstand the harsh weather of remote areas. This device can work in extreme heat ranging from 55 degrees Celsius to minus 20 degrees Celsius.

Dust and water protection: It has got IP65 rating to protect against dust and water and IK04 rating to make it shockproof, so it will remain safe even if it hits rocks.
Long Battery Life: Keeping field work in mind, it has been provided with a very powerful and removable battery, which gives a backup of about 160 hours i.e. more than 6 and a half days even in areas without electricity.
This phone is not for the general public, government approval will be necessary
This is not a common smartphone nor does it have features like social media, video streaming or touchscreen. Due to strict national security and telecommunication rules, no common citizen can buy it directly from the market or shop. To buy and use it, it is mandatory to obtain approval from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) of the government. Owning or operating a satellite phone in India without permission is completely prohibited and illegal.
For whom is it useful?

This satellite phone is primarily designed for emergency and business services. Such as Indian Army and Border Security Force, the tracker is designed for disaster management and relief work teams, marine vessels, mining, oil and gas sectors, inaccessible mountainous areas.
Satellite Service Plan and Recharge
To keep this phone active, you will have to purchase satellite service packs of BSNL, which are different for government and commercial users.
For Government Departments: Monthly plans start at ₹3,500 (20 minutes/SMS free) and annual plans start at ₹38,500 (240 minutes/SMS free). Apart from this the call rate will be ₹18 per minute.
For commercial users: Monthly plan ₹5,835 (30 minutes/SMS free) and Annual plan ₹64,185 (360 minutes/SMS free). Apart from this, the call rate will be ₹25 per minute.
