Interpol Red Corner Notice SIA Kashmir: The army has achieved a major success in the anti-terrorism operation in Kashmir. Kashmir’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) has issued an Interpol Red Corner Notice against declared Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Imtiaz Ahmed Kandu (alias Fayaz, alias Sajjad). This is an important milestone in the investigation of the 2013 Tarju terror attack.

This notice will help international law enforcement agencies to locate the accused, take him into custody and initiate the legal process of extradition by bringing him to India and facing trial.

Kandu is the main accused in the 2013 Tarju terror attack.

This case pertains to the terrorist attack that took place on 26 April 2013 in Peer Mohalla of Haigam area of ​​Sopore. At that time, terrorists armed with automatic weapons had attacked the police, in which four soldiers of Jammu and Kashmir Police were martyred. This was one of the most serious terrorist attacks on security forces during that period. The case was initially registered at Tarju police station in Sopore and later handed over to SIA Kashmir in 2024 for full investigation. After thorough analysis of evidence and extensive investigation, SIA Kashmir added more offenses in the case.

Encounter has taken place between two accused

Let us tell you, in July 2024, a detailed charge sheet was filed against six accused in the competent trial court. ​​In the investigation and subsequent operation, two accused, Tariq Ahmed Mir of Kalamabad in Handwara and Qayum Nazar of Batpora in Sopore, were killed in the encounter. At the same time, Javed Ahmed Mattoo and Rauf Nazar of Sopore and Ahmedullah Malla of Dalal Mohalla of Srinagar were arrested. Now he is facing trial.

The sixth and main accused, Imtiaz Ahmed Kandu, is at large and is believed to have fled to Pakistan. Imtiaz Ahmed Kandu, a resident of Karaltang, Sopore, is an active member and commander of the banned terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen since 2010. Due to his continuous involvement in terrorist activities, the Government of India designated him an ‘individual terrorist’ in October 2022. Was declared.

SIA Kashmir investigation proved that Kandu had an active and key role in the Haigam terrorist attack. Besides, his involvement in a large network of terrorist activities was also revealed. Apart from this, he is wanted in at least ten more terrorist cases.

These include terrorist attacks, targeted killings (which killed more than 15 people), smuggling of arms and ammunition and narco-terror financing. Issuance of Interpol Red Corner Notice against such a terrorist is a big achievement for SIA Kashmir.
