Vietnam boat accident: Names of all Indian passengers revealed, administration releases helpline
Vietnam Boat Accident: An incident of capsizing of a speedboat carrying tourists has come to light near Vietnam’s famous tourist destination Phu Quoc Island. According to preliminary information, a total of 36 people were on board the boat, including 32 Indian tourists, three crew members and one other employee. After the accident, Vietnam’s Coast Guard and local administration started a large-scale relief and rescue operation. However, different claims have emerged regarding the number of dead and injured. Official confirmation from the local administration is awaited.
Indian Embassy released helpline numbers
Seeing the seriousness of the horrific accident, the Indian Embassy has immediately come into action mode. Special emergency control rooms have been set up in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to support the affected families and share accurate information so that immediate relief and assistance can be provided to the frightened families away from their loved ones in this hour of crisis. At the same time, the number +84 91 308 9165 has been issued for the control room set up in Hanoi.
As per information received from official sources, the following 32 Indian tourists were onboard the boat which capsized near Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam a few hours ago.

Relief and rescue operations continue
As soon as information about the accident was received, Vietnam’s border guard, coast guard and local rescue agencies reached the spot. An operation to rescue the passengers was carried out with the help of divers and rescue boats. The Indian Embassy has also informed about sending special teams to the incident site to coordinate relief operations. Also, India’s Ambassador to Vietnam is in touch with the local administration and is continuously monitoring the situation.
After the incident, several media reports claimed to have released a list of names of the Indians aboard the boat. However, the official list of all the passengers has not yet been made public by the concerned authorities or the Indian Embassy. In such a situation, information related to the identity of the dead, injured and passengers will be clear only after official confirmation.

How did the accident happen?
According to the local administration, the speedboat was returning from Hoan Me Route area towards An Thoi Port at around 1 pm. Initial information said that after the boat developed a technical fault on the way, it overturned in the sea, due to which all the passengers fell into the water. The causes of the accident are being investigated.
