Yamaha FZ Blue Flex: What changed in engine capacity and power?

In the automobile market of New Delhi, this bike will compete with the already existing bikes like Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 FFV and Hero MotoCorp’s Splendor Plus flex-fuel. The motorcycle uses the same old 149cc air-cooled, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that is found in the standard FZ series. However, necessary technical changes have been made to the engine to handle higher ethanol blending.

Due to these changes there has been a slight drop in the power output of the bike. The engine of FZ Blue Flex generates power of 11.7hp at 7,250rpm and torque of 12.8Nm at 6,000rpm. This output is 0.7hp power and 0.5Nm torque less than the normal FZ motorcycle running on Delhi roads. This decline has been recorded because the energy density of ethanol is lower than that of normal petrol. The total weight of the bike is 139 kg, which is 3 kg more than the FZ Rev variant. Apart from this, its ground clearance has also been reduced to 135mm, which was 165mm in the standard model.

Official statement from officials and company head

“Following India’s move towards electric vehicles, the launch of our ‘Blue Flex’ technology is another strategic milestone. To achieve carbon neutrality, it is important to work on multiple options rather than relying on a single technology. This bike supports the biofuel policies of the Government of India.”
— Chairman, Yamaha Motor India Group

Impact on Delhi-NCR customers and showroom availability

According to dealership officials, this motorcycle is made available in only one color option ‘Metallic Black’. This vehicle is being considered very important due to pollution control rules and promotion of green fuel in Delhi-NCR. Ethanol blended fuel is expected to be cheaper than normal petrol, which may provide relief to Delhi’s daily commuters on fuel expenses in the long run.

  • This bike comes with full-LED projector headlamps and digital instrument console.
  • For safety, it has disc brakes on both wheels along with single-channel ABS.
  • It will not get premium connected features like Bluetooth connectivity or traction control.
