Saudi Arabia Maritime Security: Saudi and America come together to keep sea routes safe, tension increases with Iran

Saudi Arabia has expressed its commitment to ensure the safety of sea lanes and the movement of ships. The Saudi delegation participated in the 137th meeting of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London. During this, he stressed on avoiding maritime dangers and strengthening rescue operations.

Chairman of the General Transport Authority (TGA) Engg. Fawaz Al-Suhali led this delegation. Saudi Arabia made it clear that it will fully comply with Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) rules. The move is part of Saudi Vision 2030’s plan to make the country a global logistics hub.

On the same day, there was a phone conversation between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump. Both the leaders described the security of sea lanes and waterways as very important. He supported doing everything possible to maintain regional security and stability. The ongoing discussions between America and Iran were also mentioned in the conversation.

All this movement has happened amid increasing tension in the Gulf region. On July 9, 2026, the US warned Iran to keep the movement of ships open in the Strait of Hormuz and stop attacks on commercial ships. America had given Iran 24 hours for this and warned that if it did not do so, it would have to face serious consequences.

Tension increased further when the US Central Command attacked about 90 military targets in Iran. In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps targeted US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain and Jordan. Amidst this situation, Saudi Arabia reiterated that it will continue to work as a responsible partner for the security of sea lanes, stability of oil markets and preservation of the global supply chain.
